Climate Change March

march

On Friday 15th of March 2019, students from Sion Hill went to the Dublin city Climate Change march. The march was organised to raise awareness about our current climate crisis. In 12 years time Climate Change could be irreversible, and in 100 years we may not even exist if change doesn’t occur. At the march, we learnt ways to reduce our carbon footprints. By walking to school, cycling, using public transport or even carpooling, we can reduce our carbon footprints drastically. We started the march from Stephen’s Green, and we went to Dawson Street. Sion Hill students were marching in the front row. Right behind us were students from another school who had a cardboard coffin and an Earth Man make out of stuffing and bin bags. It represented our Earth dying due to climate change. The march took us approximately 15 minutes. When we reached the Dáil, there was a huge stage where students gathered and inspired one another with their speeches. One girl who was ten years old told us how to reduce our carbon emissions. She says “I wake up in the morning and brush my teeth with a bamboo stick, and then I pack my books into my cloth bag. I walk to and from school. When I come back, I eat my food on a metal plate.” She claimed that these were little changes, but they can make a drastic change to our carbon footprint. Others spoke about beach cleans. We heard songs about climate change as well. We are lucky that we live in a country where children have a voice, and we can demand a change.

Green Valentine’s Day

greenvday1

Hey guys,
These are the top tips to make your Valentine’s Day a greener one💚.
Enjoy the outdoors🏞 – For Valentine’s Day, instead of buying a gift, plan a trip to a park or nature area to enjoy the great outdoors. Or if you live in a place like Ireland get cosy with a blanket beside the fireplace. 🏡
Make homemade goodies 🍪🍰– Instead of buying a box of chocolates, why not make your own homemade sweets?🍫 If you want valentine packaging, find a reusable container or decorate a shoebox.
Eat locally grown food 🍽– Try a restaurant that offers locally grown or organic food. Better yet, cook a romantic dinner at home and avoid the crowds and expense💸
Choose flowers that last 🌹– Rather than giving cut flowers that last only a few days, opt for a potted plant or flowers.
Get creative with Valentine cards –💌 65% of gifts on Valentine’s Day are cards. Instead of buying a paper card that will probably go into the trash, make a personal one using photos or other reusable or recyclable items around your home.
Compost your Valentine’s flowers🌍 – if you do receive flowers on the day don’t forget to compost it.
If you are single like the writer here- do not fear, remember that Valentine’s Day chocolates go half price the next day but remember to buy the fair trade ones.❤️
That’s it for this season💕. We hope you have a green Valentine’s Day.

Enjoy💚,

Green Christmas

Hi everyone,

During this wonderful season of giving, let’s give our Mother Earth a gift 🎁 of becoming more sustainable. These are some tips that you could use to make your Christmas a little greener ❤️:

🌍 Choose the most eco-friendly Christmas tree option for you.🌲

🌏Don’t forget to compost your Christmas tree after use. 🎄

🌏 Make your own decorations 💡( reuse old newspaper, cardboard, plastic bottle etc. — go wild with it)

🌏 Don’t leave the lights on, on your tree 🌲 during night time, try to reduce our energy consumption. 😇

🌏 Buy eco-friendly gifts for your friends and family🎁 (reusable water bottle, reusable coffee cup ☕️ etc.)

🌏 Be considerate of paper 📝 ( recycle ♻️ gift wrappers, recycle old cards etc.)

🌍 Buy locally grown food (reduce the amount of plastic packages on the vegetables and minimise your food waste by not buying excessive amounts 👍)

🌍If you have any unwanted presents, don’t bin them, donate them to your local charity shop instead. It could help a lot of people. ❤

🌍 Make your own gifts 🎁 from recycled material ( everyone appreciates a kind handmade gift)

Now last but never the least:
🌍 Have a Beautiful Christmas

Merry Green Christmas ❤️,
